a bit about the
Weekly Nomad

This is just a starting point. Regularly my buds will reach out on tips for where they’re traveling next. I’ve been around the globe to share a few tips with these wonderful humans so they can be confident going on their first trip and as we all make the change from amature travelers to full on explorers.

A bit about my story

Female Mechanical Engineer

I went from a girl who hated going outside and only wanted to watch tv to one who truly considers walking anywhere the best pastime. Plus, there's nothing like a senior design group of 9 guys and myself to keep you fully comfortable with any group composition. Well unless it's all girls.

Kid of Immigrants

My grandparents left Hungary with the revolution and made it to America where they raised my Mom and Aunt. They are incredible individuals and their stories seem unreal. Photography started as a hobby to show them when going home. They reinforced everything is possible with a good head on your shoulders.

Frugal Financial Traveler

Not everyone finds joy from tracking their expenses and making spreadsheets but I promise Excel could become your best friend! Even without anything special, their tracking and basic math can help you stay on target and under budget. Finding out a month in Guatemala (with classes and flights) is cheaper than a Missouri month.

Let's see what happens

Hi World!

Or more likely, hi mom.

TLDR: I’m writing this because I like to explore and adventure, and with very little money and time, traveled 36 countries and 40 states in under 4 years. Spoiler alert: This was during university, internships, and my full time job.

As a self-sufficient college student on not nearly enough scholarships, I’ve worked a number of jobs, and figured out ways to do this alone. While I love the idea of quitting everything and traveling full time, I’m determined to get out of student debt first, and maybe have a bit saved up for myself and my family.

I’ve traveled 5 continents by myself as an under 25 solo female traveler. I clearly remember starting out and all the information out there was, oh you’re a girl and traveling alone, go to Denmark, go to Norway, they’re safe. And while they’re lovely countries, I much prefer where I started out, towns in Panama, Vietnam, South Korea, Australia, Ecuador, and then a few Nordic countries.

You’re a girl who wants to travel the world? Or literally anyone who is interested in taking a quick break from your town. Maybe you’re down for people joining but it’s hard to find others who have the time or money and you just want to go? Well you can. I respect my families opinions and realize traveling smart will keep you safe above all else. You don’t need a ton of experience or a trust fund, just the ability to gain some common sense. My mother will be the first to tell you I wasn’t born with much, and as much as I respectfully disagree, I know she doesn’t think that about me anymore.

So hi! I’m Heather. I’m excited to meet you and I hope I can help. I’m a mid-twenties Midwesterner, and graduated university recently enough with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a school article on how I’ve been to more Countries than States *sigh – no longer true*. My other hobbies include reading and hiking, scuba diving, and photography. Let’s see what happens.

Thanks for getting to know me and I’m excited to get to know you too! Comment below or DM me on social media and let me know who or what inspired you to start exploring!
